Here’s a curious development. Sharp Corporation has decided to file a lawsuit against HannStar Display Corporation here in the US claiming the company infringed four of Sharp’s patent’s related to LCD technology. The four patent numbers in questions are U.S. Patent Numbers 5,280,372, 5,760,855, 5,852,485, and 5,907,376 – all of which are related to LCD panels.

According to Sharp, HannStar had signed a patent license agreement with Sharp back in January of 2003 covering LCD panels for PC’s. The license ended at the end of last year, and according to Sharp, HannStar failed to pay Sharp the full amount of the licensing fees due from the agreement.

Sharp had originally filed a lawsuit against HannStar in Japan back in January of 2006 and the Tokyo District Judge ruled in favor of Sharp at the end of the year. HannStar has since appealed the ruling to the Intellectual Property High Court in Japan.

Yeah I know.. just business politics – but somehow I find this one interesting. Not sure why.
