Intel Metro – the world’s thinnest notebook
“You’re so metro” might take on a new meaning thanks to this new laptop design from Intel Corporation. Dubbed the world’s thinnest notebook by Business Week, Intel along with Ziba Design, has created a prototype notebook called the Intel Metro which measures a mere 0.7 inches thick. Yes.. it’s thin but it’s also friggin light! The Metro weighs in at only 2.25 lbs. The Metro was introduced at Intel’s Developer Forum earlier this year but Business Week got a close up look at the notebook here. Here are some of the highlights:
- The Metro is not just a notebook – it’s also a fashion accessory. Attach a strap and the notebook looks like a purse. There’s a special leather-like folder that wraps around the notebook and attaches with magnets. The folder serves as a wireless charger and an external screen that let’s users check their e-mail without needing to open the computer (Think SideShow)
- The Metro utilizes Solid State Hard Drives instead of standard hard drives which results in smaller form factors, less power consumption, and less heat output. You’ll get 14 hours of battery life!
- Supports WiFi and Wi-Max wireless broadband connections
- Utilizes metal-champagne colored magnesium for the case. The trim is gold colored
- Built in light sensors which adjust the brightness automatically
- Built in video camera
- Glow in the dark orange keys
OK.. so you might be saying to yourself – “Great, it’s an Intel prototype which means it’ll never see the light of day.”. Oh contraire! According to Business Week, this notebook might actually make it to retailers later this year. No word on when or how much such a notebook would cost but one would expect it to be quite expensive.
