Microvision shows off new Pico Projector Display Engine called PicoP
Explay certainly isn’t alone in the field of portable mobile projection systems. The folks at Microvision are also using SID 2007 as an opportunity to announce their proprietary ultra-miniature display system called the PicoP. The PicoP projection system utilizes Microvisions’ newly developed wide angle MEMS scanner. With MEMS, the PicoP projection system is capable of projection a full color image at WVGA resolutions (854 x 480) in a 16:9 aspect ratio. That’s DVD quality images from a package that’s expected to be around 7 mm thick.
According to Microvision, the PicoP is “expected to be small and low-power enough to be embedded directly into mobile devices, such as cell phones”. As with the Explay, the possibilities are certainly endless as projection systems get smaller and smaller. I’d treasure the day when all I’ll need to carry to give a presentation will be my smartphone.
