Dell to introduce three systems with Ubuntu Linux on Thurs
According to Linuxquestions.org, Dell is expected to begin selling on Thursday, three systems with Ubuntu Linux loaded instead of Microsoft Windows. The three target systems are the Dell E520 Dimension desktop PC, the Inspiron 1505 laptop, and the XPS 410 laptop.
On Monday, John Hull, manager of Linux OS technologies at Dell provided additional details about the Ubuntu Linux version that Dell will be using. It is Ubuntu version 7.0.4 with all the default software from the Ubuntu media installed on the system – including the kernal and the applications. Dell plans to only offer peripherals and hardware options that have the most “mature and stable Linux driver support” – makes sense to us since this will minimize customer issues as well as customer support calls.
