Yes – it’s true. Dell is entering the Tablet PC market finally. Dell confirmed the rumors with this blog posting showing a video clip of Jeff Clarke – Senior Vice President and General Manager of Dell’s Business Product Group. In the video clip, Clarke shows off a Latitude Tablet PC which will be on sale later this year and will be targeting the Education, Healthcare, and Corporate marketplace. According to Clarke, the new Tablet PC will be one of the lightest convertible tablets in the marketplace. Jeff also states that Dell has spent a considerable amount of time on the user interface and is entering the marketplace because the technology has evolved to a point where it makes sense for them to do so.

The video clip ends with Clarke stating  We’re excited and everybody, we’re coming.”

This could be a boon for Tablet PCs – especially if Dell can manufacture a lightweight cost effective solution for the Tablet PC market. With Dell’s manufacturing might, Tablet PC’s could become a bit more mainstream.

I’ve used tablet pc’s in the past and I would consider using it again if they could get the weight down to under 4 lbs and the battery life significantly better than 2 hours.
