Amazon to open DRM-free digital music store
Digital music fans will enjoy this one – Amazon has announced that they will be launching a digital music store later this year featuring music downloads WITHOUT DRM protection. The online store will feature songs from more than 12,000 record labels including EMI Music’s digital catalog (which had previously announced a similar deal with Apple). Thus, every song in Amazon’s digital music store will be available in MP3 format which means you’ll be able to freely play the song in any digital audio player device out there.
No word on the actual launch date nor on the pricing as of yet. However, Apple is expected to offer DRM-free music at $1.29 per song (a 30 cents premium over their DRM protected content).
