ExtremeTech has published an early preview look into the upcoming LG GGW-H10N Blu-ray/HD DVD combo drive here on their website.  Considering that LG introduced the world’s first combo Blu-ray/HD DVD player earlier this year, it’s not surprising to see them venture into a combo drive for the PC market. The new drive allows people to burn Blu-ray, DVD, and CD discs. It also serves as an HD DVD ROM drive and can be used to play back HD DVD movies using the proper playback software. You can read the review for the full details but I’ll include a snippet from their verdict here:

LG and HP cooperate to deliver a usable combo drive. Think of it as a universal high definition disc player, with the added feature of being able to burn recordable discs.

Sounds promising right? Well the word on the street is that the drive will cost around $1000 dollars – yuck..
