NPD Group released March U.S. sales results for the video game, devices, and accessories market and found that the entire market as a whole rose 33 percent to $1.1 billion dollars. Leading the way in next generation console sales was the Nintendo Wii (did anyone really have any doubt here?) with over 259,000 units sold at $250 a pop. Second on the top next-gen consoles list was the Xbox 360 with 199,000 units sold in March, while the Sony Playstation 3 rounded out the top 3 with 130,000 units sold in the US.
Ironically – the venerable Sony PS2 lead the overall console category with 280,000 units sold. Yes.. the PS2 still outsells the PS3.
On the portable gaming front, Nintendo leads sales with the DS outselling the PSP 508,000 to 180,000 in the month of March.
Things are looking good for the gaming market as a whole.
