Sling Media working to make Slingbox compatible with Apple TV
Here’s some exciting news for Slingbox and Apple TV owners out there. CNET has confirmed with Sling Media that the company is indeed working on making the Slingbox compatible with the new Apple TV (which we just published a review of). The Slingbox is known for it’s placeshifting capabilities – the ability to stream video content from a variety of set top boxes to devices around the world via an Internet connection.
So how would this work exactly? Well Apple TV would receive it’s content from some iTunes enabled system (PC or Mac). The Slingbox would then interact with Apple TV and transmit it’s content to whatever device is connected to it via the Internet. Devices range from notebooks to PCs to mobile devices – as long as they have a SlingPlayer and an Internet connection. The bigger picture is – not only would video content be available for placeshifting but music content would also be available for streaming. Very cool idea.
