Sony lowers the price of the PSP to $170
Thinking about buying a Sony PSP but not quite willing to shell out $200 bucks for the portable gaming platform? Well, how about if it was available for $170 instead? Yup – that’s right. Sony announced today that they would be lowering the price of the PSP to $170 bucks. I suppose that makes the system more palateable now doesn’t it? Now if only Sony would lower the price for the PS3!!
What’s particularly interesting is this Business Week article here about how video game publishers and financial analysts were urging Sony to slash hardware prices. Sales for both the PSP and the older Sony PS2 were lagging in recent months and of course this would affect game sales for video game publishers too. On top of this, Sony has to battle competition from Nintendo in the form of the Game Boy and the DS. Thus, it’s not surprising to see Sony spur sales on by reducing the entry cost of the PSP.
I’ll say this much. If I was living in NYC, I’d probably go out and buy the PSP now. Why? I’d love to have a portable game console to pass the time during commutes to work in a subway train. However, living in LA means driving to work which means I actually never get much of a chance to play a portable game console. Weird but true. Anyways.. the PSP – now available for $170.
