There had been several reports recently of Xbox Live accounts being hijacked and user’s credit card accounts being used to purchase Microsoft points which prompted Microsoft to investigate whether there was a security breach within the Xbox Live or Bungie.net online gaming services. After some investigations, Microsoft announced that they found no evidence at all of a security breach within their service and that the fraudulant activities were probably attributed to gamers being duped into giving up their info.

Now assuming Microsoft did their due diligence in investigating this, it’s a good reminder that everyone should be careful with who they talk to and what kind of information they are providing. One thing to consider - many people use the same login names for different kinds of services (mostly because we’re lazy right?) If someone figures out your password for one service - there’s a good chance that the user utilizes the same password for other services.. again, because we’re lazy. SOO.. do yourself a favor and use different IDs and passwords. Rotate those passwords and please, please.. don’t make them so obvious ok?
