BestBuy to discontinue selling 20 GB Playstation 3’s?
It might be harder to get a 20 GB Playstation 3 than every before. According to internal BestBuy documents obtained by JoyStiq, BestBuy plans on discontinuing sales of the 20GB PS3 unit in favor of the more expensive better featured 60GB Playstation 3. As most of you already know, the 60GB PS3 comes with the added hard drive space, integrated Wi-Fi support, and media card reader and will set you back $599 in cash. Meanwhile, the gimped 20GB PS3 still sells for $499.. mostly because the PS3 is one expensive console to manufacture (and because both models feature integrated Blu-ray drives). In any event, it appears that demand for the 20GB PS3 is low and retailers probably want the 60GB model due to higher profit margins. We’re sure Sony doesn’t mind selling only 60 GB models since that means their loss per console will be a bit less. Personally, I’m still going to wait a few months before shelling out my hard earned cash for a PS3. To me – it’s still all about the content and there’s nothing compelling as of yet to make me want to get a PS3. Sorry – Blu-ray isn’t compelling enough at this time.
Oh .. one last note on this subject. I looked up the 20GB PS3 on BestBuy’s website and it appears they’re still selling the console right now.
