Xbox 360 Elite to come out later this year featuring 120GB HDD and HDMI
Here’s some exciting news for Xbox 360 fans. Engadget has confirmed with their “trusted sources” that a black Xbox 360 is indeed in the works and will be called the Xbox 360 Elite. The Xbox 360 Elite edition will be available in limited quantities and will be sold as a separate SKU from the rest of the Xbox 360 systems. Here are additional tidbits on the Elite console:
- Everything about the system will be in black including the case, controller and headset. There will also be all new packaging for the Elite edition
- The Xbox 360 Elite will feature a 120GB hard disk drive and an HDMI connector.
- Once the limited edition Elite’s are gone, Microsoft will roll out white colored versions of the system which will take over the role of Xbox Premium consoles. Yup.. the high end 360 will turn into 120GB/HDMI capable systems.
- Right now, the cost of the new Xbox 360 is estimated to be $479. As to when the new systems will come out? Either late summer or fall.
- NO bundling of the HD DVD drive with the new system. You’ll still need to purchase that separately.
Either way this is pretty exciting news. Since I just moved, I was considering waiting a bit before setting up my current 1st gen Xbox 360 in my home theater system. However, since the new 360’s won’t be out till much later this year, I’ll just integrate what I have now (which I’ll talk about in a few days).
