Panasonic introduced a new ultra light digital camcorder last week called the SDR-S10. Unlike standard digital camcorders which often utilize Mini-DV tapes for storing captured videos, the SDR-S10 utilizes SD and SDHC memory cards for storing videos and still images. This also means video recording on the SDR-S10 utilizes no moving parts - unlike tape based or even hard drive based camcorders.

Specs on the Panasonic include:

  • Impact resistance up to 1.2 meters
  • Water resistant
  • Quick start allowing the camcorder to record within 1.7 seconds of power on
  • Support up to 4GB SDHC cards or 2GB SD cards
  • 2.7 inch widescreen LCD display
  • 10x optical zoom lens
  • 10x – 700x digital zoom lens
  • USB 2.0 support
  • Measures 31 x 63 x 114 mm and weighs only 182 grams without the battery
