D-Wave shows off Orion quantum computer
In case you missed the big hoopla earlier today, the folks at D-Wave Systems showcased what they called the first commercially viable quantum computer called the 16-qubit Orion. While I would love to explain quantum computing to all of you, I think you’re better off reading ExtremeTech’s article here.
The one interesting note from the article that really stood out for me was how quantum computing could be used to tackle NP-Complete problems (NP means nondeterministic-polynomial). All you CS majors should recognize NP Complete problems – remember the Traveling Salesman problem? Yup.
