Sony calls the Wii an impulse buy
In an effort to stem the Nintendo Wii tide, Sony spokesperson Dave Karraker has been quoted as saying that the Wii is an “impulse buy” for consumers. He considers the PS3 as a far more powerful system that deserves to be in a category of it’s own. We can’t agree with you more Dave. It deserves to be it it’s own category – the category for the Rich and Famous!
According to TechDigest, Mr. Karraker is quoted as saying that the demand for the Wii is fueled by the supply shortages of the console. Um.. last I checked, the Wii sold far more units than the PS3. In fact, the Wii sold many more on launch day that the PS3.. why? The PS3 was ummm short on supply????
Of course now it’s much easier to purchase a PS3 than a Wii. Why? No one really wants to plunk down half a grand for a PS3 when they can plunk down 1/4 of a grand for a Wii and have more fun in the meantime.
Come on Sony. Stop ragging on the Wii and focus on your own problems. Here’s another thought in comparing the PS3 to the Wii. Let’s face it – you do have to have a little bit of cash to get a PS3. On top of that.. you really need a cool new TV to enjoy the high end content. The Wii? Your regular tube is fine with the Wii. Games? They’re a tad bit cheaper too. So perhaps the Wii is best described as the game console for the common man. I like that notion folks.
Of course I just might get flamed by PS3 owners now. (To be fair, I will probably get a PS3 after I get a new HDTV set .. and a new HDMI switching receiver (which again is to my point about spending more money b/c of the PS3).
