Apple and Cisco trying to work things out
For those of you that actually care, Apple and Cisco are now back at the bargaining table trying to hammer out a compromise over the “iPhone” name dispute (or as I like to say it - scuffle). Cisco has owned the iPhone trademark since 2000 when it acquirerd Infogear and filed suit against Apple for trademark infringement when Apple announced their new iPhone product earlier in January.
The two companies had been working towards a compromise up until the Apple announcement in January. Then Apple announced the iPhone and stopped talking which ultimately led to the lawsuit the very next day.
Now, both sides are back to the bargaining table. One possible deal would involved Apple and Cisco sharing the trademark and then having the products interoperate with one another. We’re not show if that actually would fly since Apple likes to build closed systems but who knows? If push comes to shove…
