How to get a clean install of Vista using Vista Upgrade DVD
The one problem with purchasing a Windows Vista upgrade DVD is – you need to have a previous version of Windows installed on your PC. This also means you won’t be able to perform clean installs of Windows Vista..
Or can you?
DailyTech has published an article detailing how you can indeed get a clean install of Windows Vista up and running on your system using the Vista Upgrade DVD. Here’s basically how it works.
- Boot from the Windows Vista Upgrade DVD and install Vista as a 30 day trial (do not enter your product key). Make sure you select the version of Vista you actually purchased though.
- Once the installation is over, log into the trial version of Vista and run the Vista installer again from the DVD. This time you’ll want to enter your product key and you’ll want to select Custom. Custom let’s you install a clean copy of Windows Vista. Yes – this also means you’re running the Windows Vista installation program twice in a row here.. but it’ll let you get a clean install going at least!
