For all you old school C&C fans, the demo version of Command & Conquer 3 - Tiberium Wars is now available on the C&C website. Yes sir.. Tiberium Wars is finally nearing completion and man.. it’s been a long time coming! I still remember my college days when the first C&C game came out. There I was - sitting in my off campus housing play a game of GDI vs Nod.. wow that was fun! Better yet - playing a network game against my roommates and employing the old APC/Engineer trick.. yeah that really pissed them off. Of course, I was none too happy back then when the Nod biker gangs would tear apart my vehicles. Nevertheless… those were the good old days! C&C Generals brought back some of the feelings several years ago so I’m eagerly awaiting C&C 3.

Soo.. go to the C&C website and download the demo now!

I totally missed this one last Friday. Sony had announced that the European (as well as Australian) version of the PS3 was redesigned when compared to the Playstation 3 consoles launched in Japan and in the US. The new PS3’s for the European market will lack the Emotion Chip found in the older PS2 and current US and Japanese PS3 models. Why are they doing this you might ask? As you can imagine, it boils down to costs. It’s cheaper to emulate in software than to embed a dedicated processor inside the PS3. However, the lack of a dedicated Emotion Chip means the European/Australian version of the PS3 will not be anywhere near as backwards compatible with PS2 games as the US and Japanese models. Sony is downplaying backwards compatibility at this time but it sure feels like Europe and Australia are being short changed here.

The new versions of the PS3 for these markets is due to launch on March 23rd.

The folks at Ubergizmo have published a review of the Maxtor Fusion 500 GB personal web server here on their website. The Fusion is an interesting device in many ways. At first glance, the Fusion looks like your typical Maxtor Network File Server device but in reality, it’s more than that. The Fusion allows you to create user accounts which are then accessible via a GUI interface. You can share files from the file server directly via URL links and you can also personalize your content with what Maxtor calls a “tailor made experience created just for your audience”.

Here are the specs:

  • 500 GB storage space
  • Gigabit Ethernet
  • Two USB 2.0 ports

Here’s the verdict from Ubergizmo:

The Maxtor fusion is a good product that lets people share files without leaving their main computer on. The user interface could use some improvements, but it should not stop you from considering using it.

There’s an interesting thread over at Zunerama that talks about how songs downloaded via a Zune Pass subscription are usable on a Creative Zen digital music player (and possibly on other PlaysForSure devices out there). This isn’t exactly surprising of course since David Caulton of Microsoft has already acknowledged this in an interview over at the ClicZune here. Here’s the quote:

“Zune content can get out via Windows Media Player into playsforsure devices, but this scenario isn’t officially supported and may not be reliable.”

So what does this ultimately mean? Well, as long as you have a Zune Pass membership, it COULD mean your downloaded songs will work on a wider collection of digital audio players than just the Zune. Of course.. if you own a Creative Zune or some other PlaysForSure device, it’s not clear why you wouldn’t consider signing up to a service like Napster or some other vendor. However, if you have one of these devices as well as a Zune, then a Zune Pass subscription makes more sense to me. In any case, it’ll be interesting to see how this all plays out over time.

All quiet on the western front…

Yes, I know - it’s been really quiet here recently on Krunker.com. I’m in the process of moving to a new home right now so as you can tell, I’m all tied up in packing and moving duties. Soooo.. I apologize for the lack of news but stay tuned ok? I have a number of articles that I’m planning to write once I’m settled into my pad.. so stay tuned! In the meantime, thanks for dropping by and I hope you’re staying warm during this crazy winter.
