Here’s a product announcement that I meant to post last week but failed to do so because of the server issues. It’s called the VoomPC-2 and it’s a new family of low power high performance car PCs designed by mini-box.com (a subsidiary of Ituner Networks Corp). The new VoomPC-2 platform utilizes the mini-ITX motherboard platform and sports a low power VIA C7 processor capable of running either Linux or Windows. The unit comes with an intelligent power supply which eliminates battery drawin and prevents damage from unwanted power surges.
The VoomPC-2 system comes with 8 user selectable microcontroller driven timing modes which allow you to choose up to 8 ignition/shutdown car pc timing schemes. Specs on the VoomPC-2 include the following:
- 1.5GHz VIA C7 processor
- VGA, S-Video out
- USB 2.0 support
- Firewire support
- Ethernet port
- PCMCIA type I and type II CardBus interface for GPRS/WiFi
- 5.1 channel audio
One of the key features is the intelligent power supply which shuts the car PC down when the car battery drops below 11.2 watts thereby preventing the PC from draining the car’s battery.
You can purchase the VoomPC-2 in a barebones configuration priced at $395.00.
