Nokia introduces 6131 NFC mobile phone
I’m now going to shift our attention to the latest Nokia products announced this week at CES 2007. One of the more interesting innovations being pushed by Nokia is their Near Field Communications (NFC) technology. A device enabled with NFC technology can perform various tasks with other NFC enabled devices. Tasks include service initiations, information sharing, and payment &ticket capabilities.
To push NFC technology along, Nokia was showing off the Nokia 6131 NFC enabled mobile phone this week at CES 2007. Remember those Mobile Speedpass keys that let you quickly pay for your fillups at Mobile gas stations with a simple swipe of a dongle? Well, the Nokia 6131 NFC mobile phone let’s you perform simple tasks with a tap of the phone.
Can’t picture it? Well imagine registering for CES 2007 simply by tapping the phone on a kiosk? The phone would identify you to the kiosk and all of your registration information would be printed. How about this scenario – walk past a billboard advertising a new movie coming out. Tap the phone on the billboard and quickly download the movie trailer for you to view. Pretty cool huh?
Aside from NFC technology, the Nokia 6131 NFC features many of the high end features found in mobile phones today including:
- Integrated digital music player
- microSD card support
- FM stereo radio
- 1.3 megapixel digital camera
- Dedicated camera button
- 8x digital zoom
- Bluetooth wireless support
The 6131 NFC will be available in select markets during the first quarter of this year for a price of approximately $340 dollars.
