If you’re an Xbox 360 owner, then one of the more interesting announcements by Microsoft at CES 2007 was how they were bringing IPTV technology to the 360 console in time for the holiday season of 2007. This annoucement really is the first of it’s kind – the first time a game console has been married with IPTV technology – of course this being the Microsoft TV IPTV edition we’re talking about.

So how does this work? You’ll need a broadband service provider that utilizes the Microsoft IPTV software platform for television delivery.. but once you do, you’ll enjoy seamless integration of television content, next generation gaming, and Xbox Live support. What’s particularly exciting is just the notion that Microsoft continues to add new and significant features to the Xbox 360 console. While at first, the console was all about gaming, it’s now becoming more and more the centerpiece of the digital home – at least in the eyes of Microsoft.

Companies that have chosen to use Microsoft’s IPTV Edition as their platform include AT&T, BT Group PLC, Deutsche Telekom, T-Online, and Swisscom.
