Toshiba introduced a new notebook, designed in collaboration with Microsoft, called the Portege R400 . These two companies decided to come together to create the R400 in the hopes of creating what they call the “signature Windows Vista PC”. Soo…. that begs the question – what exactly is the signature Windows Vista PC?? Well according to Toshiba and Microsoft, the R400 signature Windows Vista PC embodies the very best in technologies including:

  • The first notebook to automatically synchronize email and calendar events using Microsoft’s Active Notifications – whether the notebook is on or in suspend mode
  • Features Toshiba’s ConfigFree which detects and connects to the strongest and most reliable network connection available
  • Toshiba Edge Display – a secondary display located on the front edge of the notebook which serves as the user’s personal information assistant (think Windows SideShow here). The Edge Display is viewable in both notebook or tablet mode and even when the unit is stored in a case
  • World’s first wirelessly dockable notebook computer thanks to the integration of Ultra Wide Band technology with wireless digital video capabilities. An R400 can automatically connect to a Toshiba Wireless Port Replicator when it gets close enough

Oh yeah – if you haven’t figured it out by now, the Portege R400 is a convertible notebook which means you can use it as a standard notebook or a tablet PC. The notebook comes with a 12.1 inch widescreen LED backlit high brightness display and features:

  • Intel Core Duo Processor U2500 running at 1.2 GHz
