ASUS is demonstrating the new XG Station at CES 2007 (unfortunately I missed the ASUS booth since I was only there at CES for one day). The XG Station is the world’s first external graphics card station for notebook computers. Don’t get the concept?

Most notebook systems favor power efficient components - including graphics processors that don’t consume a great deal of power. This leads to notebook graphics that typically lag desktop graphics performance. With the XG Station, you can now have the best of both worlds. When you’re traveling with your notebook, you can enjoy the integrated graphics found on the system. Once you get back to your desk – just connect the XG Station to your notebook and monitor, and you’ll be ready to experience PC level graphics.

The XG Station being demoed at CES includes the ASUS EN7900GS and is capable of supporting other graphics technologies including HDMI and HDCP.

Other features on the XG Station include:

  • Large LED display
  • System master volume
  • GPU clock speed
  • Current GPU Temperature
  • Dolby Headphones feature status
  • Current actual Frames Per Second (FPS) information
  • GPU fan speed indicator

ASUS claims that the XG Station will be released during the  beginning of Q2 2007. No word on pricing.
