Directed Electronics has a new product out called the Soloist Universal Sound System (model SOLOD1). The Soloist is billed as a “universal dock” for Sirius and Apple iPod devices and integrates an NXT stereo sound panel.

Features of the SOLOD1 include:

  • Wake up to SIRIUS or iPod content
  • Docks up to seven differen SIRIUS radios via simple interchangeable inserts (includes all cradles and adapter sleeves)
  • Docs all iPod 30 pin players
  • Customizable Equalization and DBBS Dynamic Bass Boost
  • Built in alarm clock and snooze button
  • Front panel AUX IN and headphone jacks
  • Rear panel AUX IN and AUX OUT jacks for connecting to A/V system or computer
  • Rear panel USB jack supports file transfer with SIRIUS Stiletto

Does anyone find it a little funny that this is called a “Universal Sound System” when it’s really tailored for Sirius and Apple iPod devices? I suppose it’s universal because of the Aux in port eh? Perhaps they’ll introduce additional cradles for other devices in the future? Oh well!

Finally – this product won an innovation award for CES 2007.
