Seagate to introduce FreeAgent Portable Storage Device
If you’re out at CES next week, be on the lookout for Seagate’s new FreeAgent portable storage devices. These are small USB based portable storage devices that can hold up to 750GB of data. Seagate’s goal is for you to carry your data with you in a portable fashion – not necessarily your mobile laptop.
Ok.. so you’re saying huh? The concept is simple (and many others offer similar competing products – plug the FreeAgent device into any terminal or PC wherever you go and work on your files and applications via a VPN connection. FreeAgent will supposedly leave no trace of itself on the computer that it’s plugged into. The idea seems sound – assuming you can find yourself a free PC to plug into (perhaps an Internet Cafe?)
Seagate’s FreeAgent device will come in a Pro, Desktop, and Go lineup.
The Pro will range in size from 320GB to 750GB. You’ll also get 500MB of space on Seagate’s Internet storage site for free for six months. Prices for the Pro line will range from $199 to $419.
The Desktop lineup will range from 250GB to 500GB sizes while the Go lineup will range from 12GB to 160GB.
