Logitech introduces X-240 speakers with built in dock
Logitech introduces a new 2.1 speaker system called the Logitech X-240 speakers. The X-240 features a redesigned control center with audio controls for a PC or a Mac but best of all - the system features a stow away cradle for a portable device (such as an Apple iPod, Microsoft Zune, PDA, or mobile phone) which allows people to charge, sync, and play their device with the PC.
To ensure a good fit between various portable devices and the X-240’s built in dock, the system comes with several specialized trays for the Apple iPod and the Microsoft Zune. These trays also help to keep charging cables out of sight. Clearly these speakers are designed to integrate yet another piece of functionality that is now commonly found on a person’s desktop - the dock.
Other features of the Logitech X-240 Speakers include:
- Convenient volume and power controls
- Stylish metal grills
- Ported down firing subwoofer
- High excursion satellite drivers
- Headphone jack
- 25 watts RMS (Subwoofer 15 watts RMS, and Satellites each have 5 watts RMS)
The Logitech X-240 will be available in the US starting in April and in Europe starting in May. The suggested retail price will be $49.99.

Charge, Sync, or Play: Logitech X-240 Speakers Introduce Integrated Cradle for Digital Music Players, PDAs, Mobile Phones
LAS VEGAS –(Business Wire)– Jan. 4, 2007 Logitech (NASDAQ:LOGI) (SWX:LOGN), a leading manufacturer of multimedia speakers, today announced the Logitech(R) X-240 speaker system for the PC, to be on display at the 2007 Consumer Electronics Show next week. The X-240 PC speaker system features a redesigned control center that includes audio controls for a PC or Mac and serves as a cradle for an iPod(R) or other MP3 player, PDA or mobile phone. The cradle, which stows away when not in use, makes it easier for people to charge, sync and play their portable device with their PC.
“Logitech understands digital music is changing the way people use their PC and portable devices, so we are developing new concepts that uniquely enhance that experience,” said Jef Holove, Logitech’s vice president of product marketing for audio. “We have optimized the X-240 speakers for digital music enthusiasts by including a convenient, wired control center with an integrated cradle for a favorite portable media device. In addition to delivering great sound for the PC, the X-240 speaker system provides convenience and flexibility when using a portable music player with a PC.”
Control Center Cradle Simplifies Integration between PC and Device
With plug-and-play functionality, the X-240 speaker system allows people to dock their digital device by simply plugging it into the cradle. When their device of choice is docked, people can charge it and sync or play their favorite digital music. And when not in use, the cradle can be stored flush with the control pod.
To ensure a secure fit, the X-240 speakers include specialized trays for the iPod(R) and Microsoft(R) Zune(TM). In addition to providing a custom fit, these trays help route the iPod or Zune charging cables behind the control pod and out of sight.
For people who don’t own any portable devices but still want quality PC speakers, the Logitech X-240 PC speakers deliver a rich sound while maintaining a smart profile. With stylish metal grilles, high-excursion satellite drivers, a ported down-firing subwoofer and dynamic, real-time bass equalization, the speakers deliver great audio in a stylish and slim design. For easy access, the control center also features master volume control, power buttons, and a convenient headphone jack that enables private listening.
Pricing and Availability
The Logitech X-240 speaker system is expected to be available in the U.S. beginning in April and in Europe beginning in May. With a suggested retail price in the U.S. of $49.99, the Logitech X-240 speakers provide superior audio performance for their price.
