If you’re hoping that Apple will begin shipping their new iTV device at MacWorld next week, you might be in for some disappointment. According to the AppleInsider, the iTV device is rumored to be suffering from some quality assurance issues and thus is most likely to ship in late January or early February. The issues are around fine tuning an embedded version of the Mac OS X operating system which is supposedly running the device.

Details of iTV have been scarce ever since the official announcement of the $299 device back in Sept. of 2006

What we do know is this.

  • The device will support media streaming of movies, music, and photos from computers to your television set via wireless networking
  • The device will work in conjunction with iTunes on a Mac and PC
  • Ethernet, USB support
  • Component video and HDMI support

Other rumors have the iTV featuring a built in hard drive to support downloadable content off the web. As AppleInsider notes, most people believe that Apple has yet to reveal the full capabilities of the device. Unfortunately it seems that iTV will have to wait a few weeks. Not too big of a deal if you consider how many other things are going on this month. Heck.. maybe iTV will steal some of the thunder of Vista’s consumer launch at the end of January!
