It was bound to happen right? Nothing is ever truly bulletproof right? Right! Except.. I just never expected it to happen before the end of this year.
So what am I talking about? Well the AACS encryption format used by both HD DVD and Blu-ray has been cracked by a resourceful programmer who goes by the handle “muslix64″ over at the doom9 forums.
muslix64 created a tool called “BackupHDDVD” to do exactly that - back up the contents of an HD DVD disc straight to the hard drive. You still need the keys for your specific title to make things work but there are ways to get that.
