There’s an interesting article over at ExtremeTech.com entitled “PlayStation 3 Losers Need to Get a Life” which basically lists out the reasons why one might be a loser if they ended up purchasing a PS3 (or a Nintendo Wii/Microsoft Xbox 360) this holiday season. You might be a loser if:

  • You paid $500 bucks for a game console (I definitely have to agree with that .. sorry but 500 dollars is just WAYY too much money to pay for a game console EVEN if you get a Blu-ray drive inside
  • You camped out anywhere to buy a system
  • You camped out anywhere to buy one only to sell it on eBay (though one could argue you were being capitalistic here)
  • You fell for Sony and others pretend shortages.. (I have to agree here folks)

There are several other reasons why you might be a loser according to ExtremeTech but I’ll let you read that on their site here. The bottom line – all three systems are first and foremost game systems first and whatever else second. As much as Sony wants to talk up their Blu-ray drive, all it means to the consumer is – higher prices and paying more money for Blu-ray discs (not to mention your desire to spend more money to purchase a 1080p television set).

It’s been a year since I purchased the Xbox 360, and it took about this long for me to start using it as something OTHER than a game console. So yes - I definitely could have waited some time before getting the console but then again – I got it at the launch party :)

I do think it’s a bit harsh to call people “losers” for camping out to get a PS3.. but folks – there are better things to do with your life than sit in line for hours and days just to get a console. At the end of the day, it is just a console.
