Nothing like pre-MacWorld rumors to wet the appetite of the Mac faithful out there. Mac OS Rumors.com is reporting that the 12 inch Mac notebook will be making a comeback in the form of the 12 inch MacBook Pro system (or otherwise referred to as the MacBook Thin).

The goals of the Thin were fairly straightforward. Take your standard issue MacBook Pro and scale things down without compromising the features. According to Mac OS Rumors, the “Thin is intended to be the fastest, most feature-rich ultraportable laptop on the market.”

Specs reported by the website include:

  • 12 inch widescreendisplay with 1280 x 800 resolution
  • 2.16 or 2.33 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processors
  • 1GB of DDR2-667 memory with a max capacity of 3GB
  • Pro Ports – USB 2.0, FireWire 400 and 800, Gigabit Ethernet, Digital/Analog audio minijack I/O ports
  • ExpressCard slot
  • 2.5 inch SATA HDD – 120GB and up
  • Combo or Super optical drive
  • ATI Radeon Mobility X1600 or NVIDIA GeForce Go 7600
  • Mini-DVI connector
  • Built in iSight, microphone, Airport Extreme, Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR
  • 6.5 hour battery life - maybe even 8 hours

With so many rumored products to be coming out in January, one wonders whether a 12 inch MacBook Pro really will come out during that month. However, the general concensus of the rumor mill thinks the notebook is for real and will be announced within 6 weeks. Shipments could begin as early as 10 weeks from now.
