AMD announced two new additions to their dual core family of Athlon 64 x2 processors – the Athlon 64 x2 5400+ and 5600+ processors. Both dual core processor packages run at 2.8GHz and are based on the 90nm “Windsor” architecture.

Features on these new processors include:

  • Enhanced virus protection
  • AMD Digital Media Xpress for digital media playback
  • AMD Cool’n'Quiet technology
  • Integrated DDR memory controller:
  • 5400+ has 512KB+512KB L2 cache
  • 5600+ has 1MB + 1MB L2 cache

The 5400+ will be available for $485 in 1000 units while the 5600+ will be available for $505 in 1000 units.

You can find these new processors in the Dell E521 or C521 Dimension series desktops.
