CDRInfo has published a great article detailing the OSx86 project here on their website. What exactly is the OSx86 project you might ask? Well it’s basically a group of people who are determined to share information on how to get the current x86 version of OS X running on stock PC components as opposed to purchased Apple hardware.

The article goes over the steps that CDRInfo took in creating a machine usable by OS X. There’s also a benchmark comparison of two different processors used in their system – one processor was the Intel Core 2 Duo XE6800 processor while the other one was the quad core Intel QX6700 processor – both of which were running OS X.

Here’s a blurb from the article:

You can now run everything a Mac can run on a stock PC. We advise you to do so. OSX is an operating system that moves the computer story a step ahead. It incorporates many nice “features” that your beloved Windows will try to catch in the next few months or even years.

I think in my hey day, I would try this project.. but nowadays, I think I will just get myself a Mac mini. :)
