LaptopMag has posted a review of the Panasonic SDR-S150 digital camcorder here on their website. The Panasonic SDR-S150 is a sub $1000 camcorder featuring:

  • 10x optical zoom
  • 3CCD camera system - comes with a separate CCD for the reds, greens, and blues resulting in greater color fidelity. Results in 540 lines of resolution
  • LEICA 12 element multi-coated lens
  • 2 stage neutral density filter
  • 3.1 megapixel still pixel resolution
  • Stereo microphone
  • 16:9 still capture
  • Optical Image Stabilizer
  • Built in flash
  • Built in SD card slot
  • PictBridge compatible
  • S-Video out, Video out, audio out, USB 2.0 connector
  • Headphone
  • Measures 3.81″ x 1.1″ x 0.62″

As you can see, the Panasonic SDR-S150 is a tape less camcorder - yup all you need are SD cards. This results in a camcorder with no moving parts which means it’s virtually silent. The SDR-S150 records in MPEG2 and you’ll be able to see your videos on a 2.8 inch screen. THe only downside I can see thus far - the price is a bit high for a device like this. Here’s the verdict from the folks at LaptopMag:

Nonetheless, shooting video is what the Panasonic SDR-S150 is really all about. Its MPEG-2 compressed files may not rival the quality of cheaper models that record to MiniDV tape, but the SDR-S150’s three-chip sensor captures better-looking footage than many DVD camcorders. And it does so with a more pocket-friendly design
