Oxy Systems introduces phling! mobile music community service
So you’ve got yourself a new music phone now and you’re listening to tunes purchased from your wireless carrier.. but what you really want is the music stored on your PC. Problem is – you’re not at home to sync the phone to the PC, so what do you do? You phling! it of course! At least that’s what the folks at Oxy Systems want you to do.
Phling! is a new “mobile music community service” being offered by Oxy Systems which allows people to access their PC music libraries over their mobile wireless networks. Phling! also embraces the web 2.0 world by bringing in the concept of social networking to the mobile music market. You can browse and make friends with other Phling! users. You can also share your music collections with these individuals (up to a total of six other friends) – they can simply browse your collections and stream your music to their phone.
Phling! isn’t just about music of course. You can also view pictures stored on your PC and even upload pics from your phone to the PC in one touch of a button.
The service supports MP3, WMA, and M4A music file formats and can securely stream your media from your PC to your mobile phone.
Every user can also post directly to a “mobile blog” or “MBlog” offered by the service. You can post pictures from your phone straight to the MBlog at the touch of a button.
There are some down sides of course. Phling! requires a fast wireless connection and also one that’s fairly stable. If you wander out of the wireless range or if there are too many users on the network, performance can degrade substantially. Also – you will need a data plan to support this service. The application is free (so far) but you’ll need to pay for the data plan which can be a lot depending on who the provider is.
Check out the site for additional information on the service. Check this page for a list of currently supported phones.
