First Motorola predicted phones will cost below $15 bucks by 2008. Now TI is getting into the picture with video cell phones lowering in costs. Texas Instruments unveiled plans to building a chip called “eCosto” which will drive prices of video cell phones below $30 – making them more affordable to folks in emerging markets. eCosto will combine multimedia functions found in phones sold in Europe, Asia, and North America into a single chip resulting in lower costs to manufacturers.

Some of the features on an eCosto (I keep wanting to say “Costco”) phone will include 3 megapixel cameras, 30 fps video capture, GSM, GPRS, and EDGE support.

TI has yet to produce any eCosto chips as of yet so you won’t really see any handsets with these chips till 2008.
