Nokia and the future of cell phones
MIT’s Technology Review has published an interesting article on the future of cell phones based on an interview conducted with Nokia’s head of Research and Development – Bob Iannucci. You can find the article here on their website.
Some of the more interesting research items that Nokia has on the table include:
- Working with material science solutions to come up with a broadband antenna that can be controlled via a software defined radio scheme. Why? To simplify the guts of a cell phone and thereby reduce costs
- Wibree wireless technology and it’s usage on cell phones for short range communication
- Making a cell phone’s user interface more adaptable to the application at hand instead of the adapting every application to make use of a numeric keypad
So if you’re into cell phones, give the article a look over. It’s a short but interesting read. Thanks to Tim for pointing out this article to us.
