The HDHomeRun – HD streaming from a networked HDTV tuner
Here’s a totally new way of packing up an HDTV tuner – it’s called the HDHomeRun and the best way to describe this device is as follows – it’s a network attached HDTV tuner. In fact, it comes with two tuners! You then connect the HDHomeRun to your local network and stream the HD content to your PCs.
Engadget has posted a review of the unit here on the Engadget HD site and finds that :
If you are in the market for dual ATSC tuners for your MythTV setup this may be the way to go, the network-enabled device allows you to add as many tuners as you want without being limited by the number of PCI slots in your PC, which opens up opportunities with small form factor computers like the Mac Mini.
Yes – it works wonderfully with MythTV but support for BeyondTV and Windows Media Center is not here yet but is coming soon. You can still watch HD streams on your PC via a Windows application if you wish.
Specs on the HDHomeRun include:
- 8-VSB (ATSC over-the-air digital HDTV)
- QAM64/256 (unencrypted digital cable TV)
- Dual HDTV Tuners
- IR Receiver (38kHz)
- 100baseTX high speed network
- Open source drivers/support
You can purchase the HDHomeRun here for $169.95 which is a pretty darn good price if you ask us.
