I’ve had several people ask me how an Xbox 360 can connect to a Windows Vista Media Center PC. The whole process is incredibly simple with Windows Vista Media Center and it’ll take you the sum total of about 1-2 minutes to get things working.

Make sure both your Windows Vista Media Center app is running AND your Xbox 360 is running. Go into the Media tab in the Xbox 360 Dashboard and select the Media Center option. From here, you’ll be given a 8 digit code. Write this code down and then bring it to your Media Center PC. Here’s a video clip of the Xbox 360 setting up with a Windows Vista (RC2) PC:

Within Windows Vista Media Center, you can select an option to add an Extender via the Tasks section.

Once you select this task you’ll be asked to enter the 8 digit number. Do so, and then MCE will ask you if you want to share your media with the Xbox 360. I’d do so unless you have some burning desire not to share of course. Once the task is finished, you’re ALL set!

For those of you wondering what it’s like to navigate the new Media Center UI via the Xbox 360 – here’s a short video clip of that experience. Again – I apologize for the grainy look. These video clips were taken from my Canon G6 camera and not my DV camcorder which decided to die on me today.

Enjoy!
