When the dual processor, dual core (hence quad core) Apple Mac Pro came out earlier this year, it was instantly a big hit. This was the first mainstream Apple workstation to feature four Intel processor cores in a single machine and man.. it was fast.

Now if the new rumors are correct – be prepared for an even bigger jump in performance. Apple is rumored to be preparing an eight core Mac Pro system utilizing the upcoming Intel Quad Core XEON 5300 series processor (code named Clovertown). Of course folks have already demonstrated the ability for current Mac Pros to use these upcoming processors so it’s not far fetched to imagine Apple coming out with this new machine.

It’s not clear when Apple will formerly announce this new version of the Mac Pro but AppleInsider thinks the system will come out when Intel formerly announces the new quad core XEON processors. Great stuff.
