Sony Portable Reader System (PRS-500) Review
PC Magazine posted their review of the Sony Portable Reader System (PRS-500) here on their website. Sony hyped up the PRS-500 when it was first announced and many wondered whether this eBook reader would finally spark the whole digital print industry. From a feature list, it’s pretty impressive – you get:
- 6 inch display utilizing E Ink technology that makes the output look almost paper like
- Text can be magnified for sight impaired readers
- Daylight readable, High Contrast, High resolution, Near 180 degree viewing angle
- Weighs 9 oz and is 1/2 inch thin
- Rechargeable battery. You can turn 7500 continuous pages on a single charge. Battery can be recharged in about four hours. You can use an AC adapter or a PC’s USB port to recharge the reader.
- 64 MB of internal memory
- Support for memory sticks or SD cards
You can purchase electronic books from Sony’s CONNECT eBook online store. You can also view non-protected PDF files, BBeB Book, and other text file formats on the Reader. Here’s the verdict from PC Magazine:
This is the best eBook reader that has ever been made, but it could still use some tweaks when it comes to ease of use and performance.
