Sony Playstation 3 could miss shipment targets
Sony has announced that it might not reach this year’s shipment targets for the Playstation 3 game console because of parts shortages in the Blu-ray components.
Sony’s original goal was to ship 2 million PS3’s in the US and Japan and six million worldwide by March. Jack Tretton, co-chairman of Sony Computer Entertainment America stated in an interview that ”The honest answer is it’s more of a target”.
Although Sony has not changed their revised estimates, it’s clear that Sony will probably not even reach their revised estimates of 2 million units by the year end. They’ve been suffering from shortages in the blue diode lasers department which is a key component to the Blu-ray player.
It should be noted that Pocket-lint viewed this shortage of parts as a possible delay in the U.S. We don’t share this opinion unfortunately. It’s pretty clear from the Bloomberg article that Sony will not be delaying the introduction of the PS3 here in the US – it just may not reach all of it’s shipped numbers that’s all. So please.. don’t go spreading a rumor that the PS3 might be delayed in the US. That just can’t happen for Sony at this point and it won’t.
I can wait on the Sony Playstation 3. I have an Xbox 360 and I’m more than content with that console for now.
