Rob Enderle of Digital Trends posted up his impressions of Microsoft Windows Vista RC2 here on their website. If you’re thinking about what the switch to Vista would be like when the OS comes out next month, then you should definitely give the posting a read over. Many of the experiences listed there are similar to the experiences that I’ve witness with my systems. I’ll be talking a bit about RC2 shortly as well.. and of course I’ll be giving everyone and update on my RC2 experience with the HTPC system (and it was a sad experience indeed).
In the meantime, here’s a blurb from the article on RC2.
We’ve actually been using Vista on a number of other machines as part of a long-term test and it’s actually an impressive improvement. It does a much better job of organizing things like pictures and videos, search is incredible, and visually it is very attractive (the widgets in particular are kind of cool and something you didn’t see unless you had purchased Stardock’s Window Blinds or a Mac).
OK – I don’t think the Microsoft Gadgets (not widgets) are all that cool. In fact if you want something that is a bit cooler – check out Yahoo Widgets. It’s free and you don’t need to purchase something like Window Blinds from Stardock. About the only cool thing with Microsoft Gadgets is the ability for gadgets to either live on your sidebar or on the Microsoft Live website. Big whoop.
