Small LCD screens just got a bit wider. Kyocera Corporation has announced that they have developed a wide format TTF LCD display for broad industrial market applications. The new display is called the TCG085WV and it measures 8.5 inches diagonal with a resolution of 800 x 480.

The TCG085WV provides approximately 25 % greater display area than a conventional 8.5 inch LCD display – increasing the amount of data that can be presented. Other specs include:

  • 400 cd/m2 brightness
  • 500:1 contrast ratio
  • 75K hour CFL life
  • RoHS compliant construction

The display will be in mass production starting in December.

Kyocera Releases 8.5-inch WVGA TFT Liquid Crystal Display

VANCOUVER, Wash. –(Business Wire)– Oct. 16, 2006 Kyocera Industrial Ceramics Corporation announced that global parent Kyocera Corporation has developed a wide-format TFT liquid crystal display for broad industrial market applications including factory automation and control, medical equipment, and test and measurement equipment. Model TCG085WV is an 8.5″ diagonal WVGA (800 x 480 dots) module that provides 25% greater display area than conventional 8.5″ products, thus increasing significantly the amount of data that can be displayed.

The TCG085WV features 400 cd/m2 brightness, 500:1 contrast, 75K hour CFL life, and RoHS compliant construction. It is designed to meet industrial market demands for bright crisp images, long part life, and environmental friendliness. 5 year minimum supply is available, upon request. Kyocera Industrial Ceramics is accepting sample orders now. The company expects to be in mass production from December, 2006, and hopes to achieve a production volume of 40K units/month from March, 2007.
