If you had to name one area where Microsoft did a good job in when it came to the Xbox gaming console, it would have to be the Xbox Live network. With Xbox Live, you have one seamless networking environment for any game that happens to be Xbox Live enabled. With the 360, Microsoft took it a step further with the Xbox Live Marketplace and making the 360 fully connected.

Thus one would wonder what the Sony network offering would be like under the new Sony Playstation 3 console. the folks at Eurogamer.com have posted an article detailing the new online environment and things indeed look good.

On the PS3, you’ll be able to create multiple user profiles, chat with friends online and even shop online. The UI experience looks pretty good thus far especially when you consider that the 360’s UI can be clunky sometimes – especially with the online component.

One interesting point that the article stresses is – the network portion of the PS3 is free as compared to Microsoft’s Xbox Live which is fee based. However, further charges might apply for subscriptions to gaming services under the Sony networking plan so in some ways things are not all that different.
