Belkin introduces the Notebook Expansion Dock – a universal docking solution for laptops
Laptop docking stations have been a wonderful yet annoying accessory over the years. On one hand they’re great because they allow you to expand the capabilities of your notebook without having to buy a newer notebook. On the other hand, docking stations tend to be proprietary to the notebook at hand which means you’ll need to buy a new one when you buy a new notebook.
Well Belkin aims to change all of that with the introduction of the Notebook Expansion Dock. It’s the first universal docking solution for notebooks that make use of the high bandwidth capabilities of the ExpressCard port. With ExpressCard technology, you can get upwards of 2Gbps bandwidth which is utterly awesome folks. The Notebook Expansion Dock comes in a slim vertical footprint that minimizes desktop real estate usage while managing all of your expansion needs. Expansion capabilities include:
- High resolution DVD quality video output through VGA or DVI ports
- 5.1 surround sound support through optical or 3.5 mm ports
- 5 USB 2.0 ports
- 10/100 Mbps Ethernet ports
The Notebook Expansion Dock is retailed at $199.99. The only downer of course is – you’ll need an ExpressCard capable notebook/laptop to make use of the device.
