Sony is introducing a new VAIO desktop system called the type R master which splits your standard PC into two components. The first component houses all the essential goods that a PC needs while the second component houses all components that you need to have easily accessible. The main box which you can hide away contains the guts of the system which can have:

  • Intel Core 2 Duo processor
  • NVIDIA 7600 GT 256MB GPU
  • TV tuners
  • up to 3GB of memory
  • support for up to 2TB of disk space (4 hard drive bays)
  • PCIe expansion slots

The secondary component houses the optical drive (including a Blu-ray drive), USB ports, firewire ports, headphone and microphone jacks, and media card readers.

This system is coming out first in Japan at the end of the month which prices ranging from $1600 to well over $4700.
