A-DATA FP1 Fingerprint Disk Review
USB flash drives are a common means of transporting data from system to system these days. Ever wonder how many people actually lose their drives – especially when you consider how small they are? Losing a flash drive may not seem like a big deal but think about what you might be losing there folks – ALL that personal data (or corporate data!). That’s why high security places actually restrict the use of flash drives – you just can’t trust them (or rather.. you can’t trust the people who use em).
Enter A-DATA with their FP1 Fingerprint Disk drive. It’s a USB flash drive with an embedded sweep-type fingerprint sensor. What this means is – data can only be accessed on your drive when the fingerprint has been verified. Your data is thus nice and secure if it literally fell into the wrong hands. Best thing of all? You don’t have to install any software – everything you need is right on the drive itself.
Specs of the FP1 include:
- Sweep type fingerprint sensor
- USB 2.0 support
- Supports ONLY Windows
- Software includes data encryption/decryption, web auto login, web favorites, file management, and flash mail
- LED flashing in access
- Measures 66.4 x 24 x 9.3 mm and weighs a mere 15 grams
The drive is available in 512MB, 1GB, 2GB, 4GB, and 8GB storage capacities. The good folks at TweakTown.com posted a review of this drive and found:
For those who have been looking for some way to secure their personal and private digital information, make sure to check out the A-DATA line of biometric devices.
The only real negative thing about the drive is the performance hit but hey – if you can have solid security in the meantime, maybe that won’t matter much.
