Fujitsu feeling left out decides to join in on the battery recall fun
You know.. the Sony PlayStation 3 better be a knockout because Sony isn’t exactly doing all that well in other fronts. From last year’s CD debacle to this year’s widespread battery recalls, Sony isn’t exactly looking very good to the public (need we mention that the PS3 has been delayed time and time again?) . Anyhow, I digress here of course for Japanese electronics manufacturer Fujitsu has announced that they would also be recalling approximately 287,000 notebook batteries that were made by Sony. Fujitsu joins a growing list of computer manufacturers including Dell, Apple, Lenovo, IBM, and Toshiba that have decided to perform battery recalls due to the fact that their batteries could possibly overheat or even catch fire.
What will be interesting to see is how much all of this will end up costing Sony. Early estimates from Sony had the recall costing them anywhere between $170 million to $254 million dollars. Now a Sony spokesman has announced that the recall cost is expected to be above these estimates – although no new estimate was given at this time.
