A real live look at the Sony Playstation 3 at PSM3Mag.com

It started with a little photo tease on Friday when the folks at PlayStation3 Magazine got a hold of a Sony PlayStation 3 in their office. So we saw the pictures and we somewhat salivated .. but we wondered.. what was the new console really like? Well the tease continued on Monday where several more pictures and details were released. Finally, the full final look into the PS3 was given today on the website as well as some info on why the video of the console was removed (they had to make sure Sony didn’t get pissed off of course)

Here are some of the details quoted straight from the magazine on Monday:

1) It’s quiet like a sleeping baby. A barely audible hum. With the TV on you simply can’t hear it at all.
2) It’s heavy like a planet. No, really. It’s impossible to pick up with one hand.
3) It’s shiny like a mirror. ..
4) The PS3 joypad is very light and the tilt system is very responsive. We like.
5) The start up is amazingly fast. And game load times were faster than expected…

The Tuesday posting is much more interesting as they go into the two games that they played. Of note – there’s no external power brick on the PS3 (like there is on the Xbox 360). There also doesn’t seem to be much of a heat issue with the PS3.

So far so good on the PS3 front if you ask us. We’re still Xbox 360 fanatics of course but we’re definitely open to the notion of obtaining a PlayStation 3 if the occasion arises. Of course.. it’s a bit ridiculous to shell out $599 for a game console but who are we to say huh?
